The Reference Picture
To create a realistic-looking portrait, a good reference photo is essential. The better the photo, the better the final result will be.
So take the time to snap a great photo of your pet—one that is high-quality and truly captures their personality.
Tips for taking a good reference picture:
- Take the photo in daylight.
- Make sure the colors of the fur and eyes match your pet's actual appearance as closely as possible (which is why daylight is so important).
- Make sure at least the snout is sharply focused, so I can clearly draw all the details.
- Take the photo from up close, without zooming in.
- A photo size of at least 1920 x 1080 pixels is ideal.

If you do not have a suitable photo and cannot take one—for example, because your pet has passed away—we can look into whether it is possible to create a good likeness using multiple photos.
Below you will find some examples of good reference photos. In general, photos taken by professional photographers are always suitable as references.
